What Does an Eye Exam Consist Of?

Curious about what to expect at your upcoming eye exam? We’ve got you covered. During your visit, our optometrists will walk you through a series of tests and discussions to ensure the health and quality of your vision. You’ll discuss any changes in your medical history, medications, and family’s vision history. We’ll conduct various vision and eye tests to assess your visual acuity, prescription needs, and eye health. Afterwards, we’ll discuss your vision status and any problems or correction options. Our optometrists are here to guide you through each step, ensuring your eyesight remains clear and healthy.

When to Get a Comprehensive Eye Exam?

You may wonder, “When do I need to schedule an eye exam?” Having your eyes checked regularly is essential, even if you’re not experiencing vision problems. Many eye diseases and conditions can go undetected in their early stages. By scheduling regular eye exams, you give yourself the best chance of detecting potential problems early when treatment options are more effective. Prioritize your eye health by scheduling regular eye exams at Cockrell Eyecare Center.

Pediatric Eye Exams for Healthy Vision

When it comes to having regular eye exams, children are not exempt. In fact, experts estimate that a significant percentage of preschoolers and school-aged children have vision problems. That’s why pediatric eye exams are so important.

At Cockrell Eyecare Center we recommend infants be evaluated during the first year of life to determine if they are developing appropriately. We are proud to participate in InfantSEE® which is a public health program designed to ensure that eye and vision care become an integral part of an infant’s wellness care. We invite you to bring your infant to our practice for their first eye exam. This exam is complimentary for infants 6-12 months of age. The visit could potentially change the course of their lives.

At Cockrell Eyecare Center we also participate in a program designed to seek out vision problems in Pre-K children specifically, three year olds. The program is called SEE TO LEARN. The SEE TO LEARN program provides free vision analysis to three year olds. The goal is to detect vision conditions or eye health issues that require attention at an early age. Studies indicate that more than 20 percent of kindergarten children have vision problems, and this number climbs to 40 percent by the time these children reach high school graduation. Many eye conditions require care before the age of five to avoid a permanent compromise in vision. Please contact our office for more information about this program.

By scheduling regular eye exams, you can ensure your little one’s eyes function optimally, both in and out of the classroom.

The Importance of Regular Eye Exams for Aging Eyes

As we age, our eyes undergo changes that can impact our vision. This is when age-related eye conditions like , cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease become more common. While some conditions like a prescription change may be manageable inconveniences, others that you would be unaware of because they are painless can lead to vision loss.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Our skilled team utilizes state-of-the-art Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Optomap Retinal Exam Photography, to detect this age-related eye condition early. We aim to slow progression and preserve your central vision with personalized treatment plans tailored to your needs.

Comprehensive Care for Glaucoma

Our eye care team employs the most advanced diagnostic techniques including Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT), Humphrey Visual Field Analysis, Corneal Pachymetry and Corneal Hysteresis to detect glaucoma early, allowing timely intervention. Treatment options are customized according to the patients stage of glaucoma and include the most advanced topical ophthalmic drops available, laser therapy and potentially, referral for surgery.
